General Biomass Consulting

General Biomass offers scientific and technical consulting for cellulosic ethanol, biorefineries, and production of fuels and chemicals from biomass. We have substantial experience in technology development, patent evaluation, grant writing, grant evaluation and project management. Specific experience includes a strong knowledge of biomass structure and chemistry, cellulases and other hydrolytic enzymes, pretreatments, and ethanol plant economics. Consulting services are provided expeditiously and in confidence.

Principal: Daniel Gibbs, Ph.D.

Dr. Daniel Gibbs recently testified before the U.S. House Energy Subcommittee, Committee on Science, on cellulosic ethanol and other biofuels ("Ending Our Addiction to Oil: Are Advanced Vehicles and Fuels the Answer?", June 5, 2006). He was an invited speaker on cellulosic ethanol for the American Coalition for Ethanol, and has published a paper on the potential of switchgrass ethanol in the United States. He has over 20 years of experience in biological sciences, including 5 years in bioinformatics, R&D and new technology evaluation at Abbott Labs. He was an Associate Professor at DePaul University, an NIH Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Washington, and an NIH Predoctoral Fellow at Stanford. He received a B.A. in Biology from Wesleyan University, and a Ph.D. and M.A. in Biological Sciences from Stanford University. He has written and reviewed numerous grant proposals.
